UNITING THE FAMILY: AGONA NYAKROM & ASANTE.

Okofuo Katakyie Nyarko Eku IX, Omanhene of Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area; with Otumfuo Opoku Ware II (Okatakyie), Asantehene.
Okofuo Katakyie Nyarko Eku IX’s great ancestor, Okofuo Nyarko Eku I Nyarko Kwaku), migrated from Nsuta in the Asante Kingdom.
The migration from Asante followed the attempt by the Adako sub-group of the Oyoko Abusua to claim the Kwaeman (Kwaman) now Kumase Stool, from the Oyoko family, following the death of Kwamanhene Oti Akenten. He lost out to Obiri Yeboa. Therefore, he had to flee by way of Nsuta Kwaman, Nsuta, through Kontanase, and other places, with Obiri Yeboa forces in futile pursuit to bring them back. Nana Nyarko Eku (Nyarko Kwaku pronounced affectionately) as NYARKO EKU), and his people finally settled and founded the Agona State (Agonaman) with his traditional seat located at Nyakrom in the present-day Central Region.
The Agona Nyakrom ruling clan is Oyoko Abusua, and like the Omanhene of Nsuta in Asante; Nana Nyarko Eku is also an uncle to Otumfuo Asantehene. Agonaman is thoroughly Asante, by tradition, custom, and lineage.
The Akwambo Festival (making or trailing a path/pathway) recalls the migration from Asante. That Akwambo Festival is celebrated by all the divisions of Agonaman: Swedru, Asafo, Kwanyako, Duakwa, Nkum, Kwaman, (Kaman), Bobikuma, and Abodom. The current Omanhene of Agona Nyakrom is Okofuo Nyarko Eku X….thrilling enough, the current Paramount Chief of Asankare in the Asante-Akyem area is from Agona Nyakrom. Otumfuo Opoku Ware II and the Paramount Chief of Agona Nyakrom in the picture.
